INTRODUCTION
Wyndshell is a menu program useful for organizing your hard disk. It
is used to create Menu Options to run all the programs contained on
your computer.
With Wyndshell you can:
o Use either a mouse or the keyboard to select Menu Options.
o Set up an unlimited number of Menus and Submenus, each of which
can have up to 26 Options to run programs or call other Submenus.
o Use all your computer's memory for each application program,
since Wyndshell is not memory-resident.
o Assign Passwords to any Menu Option for added security.
o Set up Menus on a network which can be accessed by all users
simultaneously.
o Customize program options and screen colors as you prefer.
The Wynd-DOS utility program is also built into Wyndshell. Wynd-DOS
allows you to perform functions such as formatting disks, copying and
deleting files, and creating and renaming subdirectories - all from a
friendly environment - without having to type commands at a DOS
prompt.
5
----------------------------------------
INSTALLING / UPDATING
Wyndshell's reason for existence is to provide you easier access to
the programs on your hard disk. To enable you to do this, you must
first copy it properly to your hard disk. The Install program makes
this task simple. Install creates a new directory on your hard disk
for Wyndshell; copies the program, help, and Tutorial sample files to
that directory; and creates two batch files: WSHELL.BAT in the new
directory, and W.BAT in the root directory. If you want Wyndshell to
be run automatically whenever you boot up your computer, Install will
also add extra lines at the end of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Install should also be used to copy an updated version of Wyndshell
over an already existing version. To do this, follow the installation
procedure below, but be sure to answer N (for No) to the question
about loading Wyndshell automatically. If you are installing over a
version earlier than 2.0, Install will also convert any prior Menus
into the updated format. If you have an earlier version of Wyndshell
but do not run Install, it will be necessary for you to erase the old
Menu files and re-design all your Menus.
To run Install:
1 Place your backup copy of the Wyndshell diskette in drive A, then
at the DOS prompt type A: and press <Return>, then type INSTALL
and again press <Return>.
2 A title window will appear. If you have a color or composite
monitor, the question "Is the above message readable?" appears
below the window. If so, then if the message in the window is
unreadable, type N so that the program will know that your
monitor is unhappy with color and adjust itself accordingly;
otherwise type Y or press <Return>.
3 A window then appears with a series of questions which the
program needs to know in order to proceed. Type in your
preference for each question and press <Return>, or press <PgDn>
to accept the default answers.
4 After you have answered the last question, the program will copy,
create and/or modify the necessary files for your hard disk.
There is a situation which may arise that will cause difficulty. If
you wish to have Wyndshell loaded automatically, but your computer
already loads a different program automatically when it boots, then
Wyndshell will not be loaded. In this situation it is necessary for
you to modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory of the drive
from which you boot your computer so that you can remove the line
invoking the other program. Consult your DOS manual on how to use the
Edlin program to accomplish this.
6
INSTALLING ON A NETWORK
Wyndshell can be installed on a network so that each user will be able
to access the same Menus. To do this, each user on the network must
be given a special identifier so that Wyndshell can tell them apart.
This identifier can be any set of characters up to 6 characters long
and is assigned to a DOS environment variable called "WSID".
To install Wyndshell on a network:
1 Install Wyndshell on the network server in a directory in which
all users have full rights using the procedures above, but
instruct the Install program that you do not want Wyndshell to be
loaded automatically.
2 Add the following line to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot disk
for each user on the network:
SET WSID=??????
In place of the question marks enter a unique set of 1 to 6
characters for each user (such as the person's initials). For
example, you could enter SET WSID=TJM. (Be sure you do not put a
space before or after the equal sign.)
3 If you wish to have Wyndshell loaded automatically for a user,
add lines at the end of the user's AUTOEXEC.BAT file (or network
"Login Script" - consult your network manuals) to log into the
directory on the server in which Wyndshell is installed, then as
the last line, add:
WSHELL
Each user on the network can then set his own screen and color options
and run his own programs without interfering with other users. If you
wish to have separate Menus for different users: Set up a Submenu for
each user with a Password so that each user has access only to his own
Submenu.
RETURNING TO THE MASTER MENU
Normally in a single-user environment, after you run a menu choice you
will return to the menu from which you made that choice when Wyndshell
is re-loaded. If you wish to have Wyndshell always return to the
Master Menu:
o Follow step 2 in the Installing on a Network section above to add
the "WSID" variable to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. (Be sure you add
this line before the line containing the "WSHELL" command.)
7
----------------------------------------
STARTING WYNDSHELL
Once Wyndshell is installed on your hard disk, it may be accessed two
ways. If you answered Yes to the question about loading it
automatically when the computer boots, then Wyndshell will be run
every time you boot up your computer. This is the normal way in which
Wyndshell is meant to be used, since it allows you to avoid altogether
the unfriendliness of the DOS prompt.
If you exit Wyndshell to DOS and wish to get back to Wyndshell, or if
you did not install it to load automatically, then type the letter W
at the DOS prompt from the root directory and press <Return>.

prompt you for Parameters at the time the Command is run, or type
N if you do not.
Use the following keys in Command Design:
Up/Down Arrow Move the cursor up / down one line
PgUp/PgDn Move to the previous / next Option
Ctrl-PgUp/PgDn Move to the first / last Option
F2 Save changes to commands and return to Menu
Design
Alt-F2 Abandon changes to commands and return to Menu
Design
F3 Add a new Command prior to the current Command
F4 Remove the current Command
Notes: If an Option has a Submenu assigned to it, then you may not
enter any Commands for that Option.
Each Command may be a DOS command, the name of a batch file, or the
name of a program file (with any Parameters following the Command
which will never change).
15
PARAMETERS
Some commands require Parameters which must be supplied by the user at
the time the program is run. For instance, the DOS EDLIN file editor
requires the user to type in the name of the file to be edited after
the word "EDLIN" when running the program.
To accommodate such cases, when in Command Design type the letter Y in
the field after the line containing a Command for which you may need
to enter Parameters. Then when an Option with such a Command is
chosen from a Wyndshell Menu, Wyndshell will prompt the user to enter
the Parameters for that Command before it is carried out.
BATCH FILES
Some applications are run by calling batch files. A batch file
contains a series of commands which are carried out in sequence by the
computer. The name of a batch file always ends with ".BAT".
In nearly all cases the name of a batch file can be entered as a
Command in Command Design. However, if the batch file in the Command
itself calls a different batch file, then Wyndshell will not be
re-loaded after running that Option. There are three different ways
of solving this problem:
o In Command Design, type \COMMAND /C before the name of the batch
file, but on the same line. This solution takes the least
effort, but also uses up precious memory.
o In Command Design, enter in each line of the batch file as a
separate command line instead of entering in the name of the
batch file at all. This is the best solution, unless the batch
file has too many lines.
o Modify the second batch file itself so that it changes directory
to the Wyndshell directory, then calls the WSHELL.BAT file as its
last lines.
----------------------------------------
DESIGNING PASSWORDS
To add security to your Menus, Passwords may be assigned to any Option
on any Menu. To enter Password Design:
o Press <F6> at the Menu Design display.
Note: This function is deliberately not shown on the bottom bar to
make it less tempting for those who do not belong in Password Design.
16
At the Password Design Display:
o The title of the current Menu appears in the upper right corner
of the window.
o An abbreviated form of the title of each Option on the current
Menu is listed next to the appropriate letter.
o To the right of each Option the Password for that Option is
displayed.
o Type in a Password next to each Option for which you want a
Password.
Use the following keys in Password Design:
Up/Down Arrow Move the cursor up / down one line
Tab Move between columns
F2 Save changes to Passwords and return to Menu
Design
Alt-F2 Abandon changes to Passwords and return to Menu
Design
F6 Assign Passwords to global non-Menu program
options
Passwords may be any combination of characters up to ten characters
long, including spaces, punctuation, and extended ASCII symbols.
GLOBAL PASSWORDS
Besides assigning Passwords to Menu Options, you may also assign
Passwords to the following global options:
o Exiting to DOS (<F2> at any Menu)
o Changing Program Options (<F4> at any Menu)
o Designing Menus (<F5> at any Menu)
o Designing Passwords (<F6> at Menu Design)
o Using Wynd-DOS (<F6> at any Menu)
17
To assign global Passwords:
1 Press <F6> at the Password Design display.
2 Use the Cursor Arrow keys to move from option to option.
3 Enter a Password for each option you wish to have a Password,
leaving the others blank.
4 Press <F2> to save the Passwords and return to the Password
Design display, or press <Alt-F2> to retain the old global
Passwords and return to the Password Design display.
----------------------------------------
WYND-DOS
To access the Wynd-DOS File Manager:
1 Press <F6> at any Menu.
2 Enter the drive and directory you wish to work with (leave the
directory blank for the root directory of a drive), and press

INTRODUCTION
Wynd-DOS is a utility program which allows you to manage disk files
from a friendly environment, without having to type commands at a DOS
prompt.
With Wynd-DOS you can:
o Open up to 9 different Wyndows on the screen at one time with
different directory information in each Wyndow.
o Copy, move, rename, and delete selected files with one Command.
o Create, copy, rename, and delete directories.
o Use a mouse or the keyboard to choose Commands and manipulate
Wyndows.
o Search for files anywhere on your disks.
o Create and edit text files (such as batch files).
o Format floppy diskettes.
o Run programs listed in your directories.
o Print information about your disks and directories.
----------------------------------------
WYNDOW TYPES
Data in Wynd-DOS is displayed using two types of Wyndows:
File Wyndow Displays information about each file in one
particular directory
Tree Wyndow Displays the relationships of every directory
on a particular disk drive
19
Certain Menu Commands are only available when a certain type of Wyndow
is active.
Up to 9 different Wyndows may be open at one time.
FILE WYNDOW
The File Wyndow is divided into two panels. The left panel lists each
file in the current directory. After each filename and extension the
size of the file is given in bytes (characters), followed by the date
and time (using a 24-hour clock) the file was last altered. Finally,
a list of the file's attributes is given. If an attribute is set on
for a file, then the initial of that attribute is shown, otherwise a
period appears in its place.
On the bar on the border of the Wyndow under the left panel, the name
of the current drive and directory is displayed, followed by the date
and time this directory was created, and by the directory's
attributes.
The right panel displays information about the current drive and
directory under several headings. After the heading "VOLUME:" appears
the Volume Label of the current drive. Beneath this, the total size
of this drive in bytes is given, followed by the number of bytes
already used on the drive and the number of bytes still available for
use. The last line under this heading gives the number of bytes of
RAM currently available.
Under the heading "DIRECTORY" are listed the number of subdirectories
and files contained in the current directory, and then the combined
total size of these files.
Under the heading "LISTED" are displayed the number and combined total
size of the files and subdirectories actually displayed in the left
panel. Under the heading "MARKED" are displayed the number and
combined total size of all files and subdirectories currently marked
in the left panel.
At the bottom of the right panel is shown how the files in the current
directory are sorted.
TREE WYNDOW
The Tree Wyndow is also divided into two panels. The left panel shows
a diagram of the "tree" structure of the current drive's directories
and subdirectories (showing which directories are subdirectories of
other directories by the lines which connect them).
20
The right panel displays information about the current drive. After
the word "DRIVE:", the drive letter is printed. Below this the Volume
Label of the current drive is shown, followed by the total size of
this drive in bytes, the number of directories and subdirectories
contained on the drive, the total number of files on the drive, and
the total number of bytes already in use on the drive. Next the
number of bytes still available for use on the drive is displayed, and
finally the number of bytes of RAM currently available is shown.

ENTERING CONDITIONS
When setting conditions for listing, marking, or searching for files,
a box appears in which to enter the conditions.
Enter the following information in the box:
o A File Mask, to find only files with similar names
o A Date range, to find only files updated over a certain period of
time
o A Size range, to find only files larger or smaller than a certain
size
o Attributes, to find only files which have certain attributes set
on or off
o Use Opposite Conditions, to find only files which do not match
all of the entered conditions
25
The filename and extension entered in the box may include "wildcard"
characters, to find several files with similar names. By placing a
question mark (?) at any point in a filename, any character is valid
at that point. An asterisk (*) indicates that any and all characters
from that point on in the filename are valid. The same is true for
the extension. By default, Wynd-DOS places an asterisk at the
beginning of both the filename and the extension, so that every file
in the directory would be found.
The Date and Size ranges entered are inclusive, so that files with a
date equal to or later than the lower date and equal to or equal to or
earlier than the higher date will be found.
For each attribute, enter a plus sign (+) if you wish to find files
only if that attribute is set on for that file. Enter a minus sign
(-) to find files only if that attribute is set off for that file.
Leave an attribute blank to find files regardless of how that
attribute is set.
Press <F3> to enter the current computer date in a field.
Press <F4> to return all fields in the Conditions box to their default
values.
When searching or marking files, the default values in the Conditions
Box will cause all files, but no directories, to be found or marked.
When listing files, the default values will cause all files and
directories to be listed.

To format a diskette in Wynd-DOS, it is necessary that the file
"FORMAT.COM" be on the drive on which Wynd-DOS is located (in the root
directory, the \DOS directory, or the directory in which Wynd-DOS is
located). Wynd-DOS also searches for "FORMAT.COM" in any directory as
it is read when a Wyndow is opened. If Wynd-DOS cannot find the
"FORMAT.COM" file, then this Command will fail.
Only disks in drives A or B may be formatted, safeguarding against the
possibility of re-formatting your hard disk.
If the DOS system files are copied to the formatted disk, then this
will be a "bootable" disk, one from which you can start your computer.

are then displayed, directory by directory. On one line is shown the
directory in which a file is found. After this are listed all the
files in that directory which match the conditions which were entered.
At the top of the screen, the number of files found and their combined
size in bytes is displayed. Press any key after viewing each
screenful to view the next, or press <Escape> to abandon the search at

Command will fail.
Enter as parameters anything which must be entered after the program's
filename if the program were run from the DOS prompt.
If you have the Wyndshell / Wynd-DOS combination, then Wynd-DOS uses
Wyndshell's batch process for running the program, freeing all of the
computer's memory for use by the program.
If you have the stand-alone version of Wynd-DOS, then Wynd-DOS remains
in memory as the program is run. If insufficient memory remains to

FILES COPY
PURPOSE
This Command allows you to make copies of files and directories to a
new location.
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the Copy Command from the Files Menu, or type C.
PROCEDURES
Indicate the Wyndow or drive and directory to which the files are to
be copied. To select the target directory:
1 If more than one Wyndow is open, Wynd-DOS asks you (on the bottom
bar) for the Wyndow into which you wish to copy the files. Type
the number of the desired Wyndow, or press <F3> to enter the name
of the target drive and directory yourself.
2 If no other Wyndow is open, or if you pressed <F3> in step 1,
then a box appears in which to enter the target drive and
directory. Type in the desired drive. Then type in the desired
directory and press <F2>, or press <F3> to view a Tree Wyndow for
the desired drive.
3 If the Wyndow selected in step 1 is a Tree Wyndow, or if you
pressed <F3> in step 2, then a full-sized Tree Wyndow appears.
Use the Cursor Movement keys to move the highlight to the desired
target directory and press <Return> (or point to the desired
directory with a mouse and click the left button).
If you change your mind or make a mistake, press <Escape> at any point
in the above process to abort the Command.
42
NOTES
If in a File Wyndow, then all marked files in the current directory
are copied. If no files are marked, or if in a Tree Wyndow, then the
highlighted file or directory is copied.
If a file with the same name as the file being copied already exists
in the target directory, then that file is replaced by the copied
file.
If a directory is to be copied, then all files in that directory are
copied into the target directory. After this, each subdirectory under
that directory is created under the target directory (if it does not
already exist) and each file from the subdirectory is copied into the
new subdirectory. This is continued for each level of subdirectories.
Before copying a file, Wynd-DOS checks to see if there is enough room
on the target drive for the file, even if the file is replacing a file
with the same name on the target drive. When copying to a floppy disk
it is recommended that any files which will be replaced should first
be deleted from the floppy.

FILES MOVE
PURPOSE
This Command allows you to make copies of files and directories to a
new location, then delete them from their present location.
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the Move Command from the Files Menu, or type M.
43
PROCEDURES
Indicate the Wyndow or drive and directory to which the files are to
be moved. To select the target directory:
1 If more than one Wyndow is open, Wynd-DOS asks you (on the bottom
bar) for the Wyndow into which you wish to move the files. Type
the number of the desired Wyndow, or press <F3> to enter the name
of the target drive and directory yourself.
2 If no other Wyndow is open, or if you pressed <F3> in step 1,
then a box appears in which to enter the target drive and

3 If the Wyndow selected in step 1 is a Tree Wyndow, or if you
pressed <F3> in step 2, then a full-sized Tree Wyndow appears.
Use the Cursor Movement keys to move the highlight to the desired
target directory and press <Return> (or point to the desired
directory with a mouse and click the left button).
If you change your mind or make a mistake, press <Escape> at any point
in the above process to abort the Command.
NOTES
If in a File Wyndow, then all marked files in the current directory
are moved. If no files are marked, or if in a Tree Wyndow, then the
highlighted file or directory is moved.
If a file is not copied successfully to the new directory then the
file will not be deleted from its original location.
If a file with the same name as the file being moved already exists in
the target directory, then that file is replaced by the moved file.
If a directory is to be moved, then all files in that directory are
copied into the target directory. After this, each subdirectory under
that directory is created under the target directory (if it does not
already exist) and each file from the subdirectory is copied into the
new subdirectory. This is continued for each level of subdirectories.
Once all files in all subdirectories have been copied, then every file
in the directory is deleted, then every file in every subdirectory is
deleted, then every subdirectory is removed from the disk, and finally
the directory itself is removed from the disk. If any step in the
process is unsuccessful, then the process is aborted immediately.
44
Before copying a file, Wynd-DOS checks to see if there is enough room
on the target drive for the file, even if the file is replacing a file
with the same name on the target drive. When moving files to a floppy
disk it is recommended that any files which will be replaced should
first be deleted from the floppy.

Choose the Rename Command from the Files Menu, or type R.
PROCEDURES
For each file or directory, enter the new filename and extension, then
press <F2> to save the new name.
NOTES
If in a File Wyndow, then all marked files in the current directory
are renamed. If no files are marked, or if in a Tree Wyndow, then the
highlighted file or directory is renamed.
If a file or subdirectory with the new name already exists in the
current directory, then the file or directory will not be renamed.
If you wish to make the same change to a number of different files,
then after entering the changes to the first file, press <F3> instead
of <F2>. Wynd-DOS will then make the same change to all the remaining
marked files.

FILES DELETE
PURPOSE
This Command allows you to remove files and directories from a disk.
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the Delete Command from the Files Menu, or type D.
PROCEDURES
For each file or directory, type Y to delete it, or type N to retain
it, or type the letter X to delete all the remaining marked files
without having to answer Yes for each one.
NOTES
If in a File Wyndow, then all marked files in the current directory
are deleted. If no files are marked, or if in a Tree Wyndow, then the
highlighted file or directory is deleted.
If a directory is to be deleted, then every file in that directory is
first deleted, then every file in every subdirectory is deleted, then
every subdirectory is removed from the disk, and finally the directory
itself is removed from the disk. If the deletion of any file or
subdirectory is unsuccessful, then the process is aborted immediately.

FILES ATTRIBUTES
PURPOSE
This Command allows you to change the date, time, and attributes of
files and directories.
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the Attributes Command from the Files Menu, or type A.
46
PROCEDURES
To change attributes:
o For each directory, answer Y to hide or unhide the directory.

attributes.
NOTES
If in a File Wyndow, then all marked files in the current directory
are modified. If no files are marked, or if in a Tree Wyndow, then
the highlighted file or directory is modified.
The date and time of creation of a directory cannot be changed, and
the only attribute which may be changed for a directory is the Hidden
Attribute. Choosing this Command for a directory toggles the Hidden
Attribute on or off.
If you wish to make the same change to a number of different files,
then after entering the date, time, and attributes to the first file,
press <F3> instead of <F2>. Wynd-DOS will then make the same change
to all the remaining marked files.

the DOS "Dir" command for that file.
Following is a list of the file attributes and what they indicate for
a file if they are set on for that file:
Read-Only The file cannot be renamed, deleted, or
altered.
Hidden The file is not shown by the DOS "Dir" command.
System They file is an essential DOS program file.
The file cannot be copied or renamed.
Directory The file is a directory.
Archive The file has been altered since the last DOS
backup was performed.

FILES DUPLICATE
PURPOSE
This Command makes a copy of files in the current directory with new
names.
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the dUplicate Command from the Files Menu.
PROCEDURES

will not work for directories and is not available from a Tree Wyndow.
If a file or subdirectory with the new name already exists in the
current directory, then the file or directory will not be duplicated.
If you wish to make the same change to a number of different file
names, then after entering the changes to the first file, press <F3>
instead of <F2>. Wynd-DOS will then duplicate all the remaining
marked files, making the same change to each filename.

FILES HEX EDIT
PURPOSE
This Command allows you to view and make changes to the individual
bytes of files.
48
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the Hex edit Command from the Files Menu.
NOTES
The highlighted file (not marked files) in the current directory is
loaded into the Hexadecimal Editor. This Command will not work for
directories and is not available from a Tree Wyndow.
The Hexadecimal Editor will not alter the size of a file, only
individual bytes in a file.
Files are divided into 256-byte pages. Pages are loaded, edited, and
saved one at a time. Editing is done in one of two modes:
Hex The hexadecimal representation of each byte is
shown on the left side of the screen. When in
this mode, type in the hexadecimal number of
the desired byte.
ASCII The character representation of each byte is
shown on the right of the screen. When in this
mode, type in the character representing the
desired byte.
Use the following keys in the Hexadecimal Editor:
Up/Down Arrow Move cursor up/down one line
Left/Right Arrow Move cursor left/right one character
Home/End Move to beginning/end of line
Ctrl-Home/End Move to first/last line of page
PgUp/PgDn Move to previous/next page
Ctrl-PgUp/PgDn Move to first/last page
F2 Exit the editor
F3 Switch between Hex mode and ASCII mode
F4 Save changes to the current page
F5 Re-load current page without saving any changes
49
The Hexadecimal Editor can be very dangerous. If you are not careful
in its use, or do not know exactly what you are doing, it is very
possible for you to damage data, destroy programs, and crash your
computer. Unless you are an experienced computer user it is
recommended that you do not use this editor.

FILES TEXT EDIT
PURPOSE
This Command allows you to create, view, and edit text files.
IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the Text edit Command from the Files Menu.
NOTES
If a file is highlighted in a File Wyndow, then the highlighted file
(not marked files) is loaded into the Text Editor. If a directory is
highlighted then you may enter the name of an existing file to edit or
of a new file to be created. If in a File Wyndow, then the file is
created in the current directory (not the highlighted directory). If
in a Tree Wyndow, then the file is created in the highlighted
directory.
When a file is loaded into the Text Editor, the entire file is read
into memory. If the file is too large to fit in memory, then as much
of the file as will fit is loaded so that you can view the file, but
no changes can be made to it.
The information bar on the bottom border of the Text Editor Wyndow
displays the name of the file being edited, the position of the
cursor, and the number of free lines available for adding to the file
(dependent on the amount of free memory).
Use the following keys in the Text Editor:
Up/Down Arrow Move cursor up/down one line
Left/Right Arrow Move cursor left/right one character
50
Ctrl-Left/Right Move left/right one word
Home/End Move to beginning/end of line
Ctrl-Home/End Move to first/last line of screen
PgUp/PgDn Move to previous/next screen
Ctrl-PgUp/PgDn Move to beginning/end of file
Insert Toggle insert mode on/off
Delete Delete character at cursor
Backspace Delete character to left of cursor
Ctrl-Backspace Delete all characters from cursor to end of
line
Return Create a new line
F2 Exit the editor
F3 Load a file or create a new file
F4 Save the current file
When you press <F3>, you may enter the name of the file currently
being edited to re-load this file without saving any changes, or the
name of a different existing file to be loaded, or the name of a new
file in order to create the file.
When you save a file, you may give the file a new name (which will be
created as a new file, leaving the original file intact on the disk).
When you save a file using the same name, then the original version of
the file is kept on the disk with a "BAK" extension.

IMPLEMENTATION
Choose the On/off mark Command from the Mark Menu, or type O; or press
<Return>, <Tab>, or <Shift-Tab>; or point to a file and click the left

down to the next file. If <Shift-Tab> is pressed, the highlight moves
up to the previous file.
Unmarked files are displayed in bright white on the screen. If not
using color, marked files are underlined. Otherwise they are red
(assuming you are using the default color set). If a file is both

PURPOSE
The Commands on this Menu allow you to change the order in which files
and directories are listed in a File Wyndow.
IMPLEMENTATION
To sort the files in a File Wyndow by:
Filename Choose the Name Command from the Sort Menu, or
type N.
Extension Choose the Extension Command from the Sort
Menu, or type E.
File Size Choose the Bytes Command from the Sort Menu, or
type B.
Date/Time Choose the date/Time Command from the Sort
Menu, or type T.
To sort the files in a File Wyndow in:
Ascending Order Choose the Ascending Command from the Sort
Menu.
Descending Order Choose the Descending Command from the Sort
Menu.
NOTES
The first time you enter Wynd-DOS, all files in File Wyndows will be
listed for you alphabetically by filename in ascending order (A to Z).
When you change the sort criteria for File Wyndows, these criteria
will remain in effect for any Wyndow you open or move into until you
change the criteria.
When you exit Wynd-DOS, the program stores the current sort criteria.
When you re-enter Wynd-DOS, these same criteria will be in effect
again.
56
The parent directory of the current directory is always the first file
listed in a File Wyndow (unless the root directory is the current
directory). After this, all other subdirectories are listed (based on
the sort criteria). After all subdirectories, all normal files are
then listed in order.
The directories displayed in a Tree Wyndow are always listed in
alphabetical order, with all subdirectories of each directory listed
after that directory in alphabetical order. Therefore the Sort
Commands are not available from a Tree Wyndow.
When sorting, numbers are considered lower than letters.
